Pens, Paper, and Plants

Pens, Paper, and Plants: A Writing Challenge

When's the last time you wrote a story?

Children are offered daily opportunities to be creative, but adults rarely take the time. Treat yourself to your own imagination and get a chance to win a prize.

The GLC is launching a writing challenge based on the Family Literacy Day theme of 2025, “Learning to be Green, Together.” Using the relationship between people and the nature, send us a piece of writing and be entered for a chance to win.

The challenge is open to anyone ages 16+ who live within Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Côte-Nord.

The Details

The challenge will have three categories, you can only submit one entry so choose wisely!

Poetry

Poetry lets you take complicated thoughts and ideas and use just a few words to describe them. They often have a rhythm, but they don’t have to rhyme. Poetry submissions should be 100-600 words long.

Mini Story

More commonly known as “flash fiction” or “short-short stories,” mini stories are usually short little stories that carry a big impact. This is a good choice for someone who likes to make a big impression in a short space! Mini stories must be 500-1000 words.

Short Story

Short stories give you a bit more space to develop your ideas, your setting, and your characters. These texts should be 2000-3000 words long.

Prizes

Each category will have a first ($200), second ($100), and third ($50) prize, to be awarded in the form of a gift card.

Submission

All submissions can be sent to the GLC by email to: info@gaspelit.ca.

The submissions will be judged by a team of volunteers.

When

The challenge opens January 29, 2025 and closes on May 2, 2025.
