How to Be an Indigenous Ally

The Montreal Urban Aboriginal Community Strategy Network created and published a toolkit to outline the ways in which every person can be an Indigenous ally.

The toolkit breaks down what it means to be an ally into three steps:

  1. Be critical of any motivations.
  2. Start learning.
  3. Act accordingly.

The Network members that developed the toolkit were motivated by a need to encourage others to be self-critical of their assumptions and actions.  Further can be read up on the motivations behind the toolkit and how it’s been received since it’s publication at CBC News.

The Montreal Urban Aboriginal Community Strategy Network is mandated to improve the quality of life of the Aboriginal people in the greater Montreal area through a coordinated and concerted approach that will align our collective interests in supporting locally-driven initiatives.

The toolkit can be found online here.
